What is the purpose of ACCESS 2.0?
ACCESS 2.0 is intended to assess social and academic English language development in the areas of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Assessment scores will determine when an English learner is ready to be placed in mainstream English classes.
Who take ACCESS 2.0?
All students in grades 9-12 who have been identified as English learners are required to take ACCESS 2.0 as it meets the federal requirements for monitoring English learners and is aligned to the state of Colorado’s rigorous academic standards.
Why is the testing window so long?
While ACCESS 2.0 is administered in January and February, your student will only test on 2 days based on their grade level. Be sure your student is checking their email for testing information; messages will be sent to parents/guardians as well.
ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 uses multiple choice questions and constructed response questions to assess the four domains of Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Up to 15 students are assessed using the online test format in a group setting in the Learning Commons or Testing Center. The test will be divided into 2 domains tested on 2 different days. While the test has no time limit, students can expect to spend 60-90 minutes on each domain.
Alternate eligible students are assessed in a 1:1 setting using an interactive paper based assessment with a trained administrator
