The SAT, or Scholastic Aptitude Test, is an important state summative assessment taken by all Colorado eleventh grade students. Created by College Board, the SAT measures a student’s academic progress through 11th grade and assesses their level of preparedness for college and career. The SAT is used by most colleges and universities for admission and scholarship opportunities The SAT also serves as an admission test and is accepted by every college in the United States. At the time of testing, students can send their scores to up to four colleges for free.
The SAT is closely aligned to challenging classroom work of Colorado schools and focuses on the key skills and concepts that evidence shows matter most for college and career readiness, including:

Reading, comprehending, and writing high-quality essays supported by evidence.

The SAT is given in April to all juniors (11th grade) during the school day and administered using using the new Bluebook app on all school-issued Chromebooks. The test is approximately 2 hours long; a more detailed schedule will be provided closer to the test date.
All juniors (11th grade) who are currently enrolled at Vista Peak Preparatory by the SAT School Day in April are automatically signed-up for the exam with the school. Test day schedules and room placement for individual students will be shared closer to the actual test day.
In an effort to ensure that all Colorado 11th grade students have equitable access to the test and its benefits, the Colorado Department of Education provides all students who are currently enrolled in a public school the opportunity to take the SAT for free in the Spring of their junior year.
Students will receive scores between 400 and 1600. This score represents the combined score of student progress in the math section and the reading and writing section. A student’s level of performance on the SAT test will be included in a student’s high school transcript. These scores are used by many colleges and universities across the country for admission purposes as well as to award scholarships.
