In attempt to understand womanist theories, Floyd- Thomas stated that it is crucial to "return to its genesis", i.e, Alice Walker's definition. He even wents as far as saying, "It is not fortuitous that womanist ethics' geneaolgy can be traced to the literary canon of Alice Walker" (Floyd-Thomas 4). This is an example of how Floyd-Thomas appreciated Walker's work.
Not only did he respect Walker's contribution, he also helped to expand the subject by reciprocating on it. Based on the 4-dimension nature of Walker's definition, Flyoid Thomas has identified "four essential tenets of womanist ethics: radical subjectivity, traditional communalism, self-love, and critical engagement" (Floyd-Thomas 8).
In the process of creating Womanist Ethicas, Emily Townes employed multiple sources, and reciprocated on them.
In Town's book "Womanist Ethics and The Cultural Production of Evil", in her attempting to explore the structural evil, Townes began her chapter with Toni Morrison's ideas about memoirs. She then "mirror this methodology" (Town 12). In other words, she appreciates Morrison's works. Town then proceeds to reciprocate to Morrison's works when she states, "Rather than argue for simplistic notion of history as fact, I am more interested in getting into the interior worlds of structural evil itself to discover what may really be there."
