On September 16th, an “Out of Darkness” walk was held at the Atoka Sports Complex. This a walk where people from all over can come together and walk to remember those they have lost due to suicide. She is also a TSA officer, an NHS officer, in NTHS, a cheerleader, and a part of Atoka's choir. This year, Audrey won homecoming queen. AHS Teacher Spotlight

Mrs. Pebworth

by John Gibbons

Mrs. Jenna Pebworth is a teacher who wears unique hats. She is not only an amazing mother, but also a very loving educator. Mrs. Pebworth has been married to her husband, Matt, for 15 years. They have two wonderful children, Zeke (eight) and Kaya (five). Her commitment to her family shines through in her daily life.

She went to Atoka Public Schools, where she graduated in 2006. During her high school years, she was a very busy student, participating in both band and choir, demonstrating her love and passion for music. Her involvement in the Bible Club also reflected her deeply rooted values.

She pursued further education after graduation, ”I continued my education at SOSU Durant for my Undergraduate Degree in Instrumental Music. My primary instrument was bassoon and my secondary was tuba. I also participated in University Singers,” states Pebworth. She then obtained a graduate degree in Educational Leadership/Administration and Building Principalship. Her dedication to learning and personal growth became evident as she expanded her horizons.

Mrs. Pebworth didn't start her music career as a teacher, “I started my career as the Director of Music at FBC in Atoka where I worked for two years." She began her career in education at Stringtown Public Schools where she taught Pre-K (3) for three years and choir for two. Then, Mrs. Pebworth spent three and a half years outside of the realm of public education, where she instead worked for Child Welfare for the State of Oklahoma. She then moved on to a teaching position at the Choctaw Nation’s Early Head Start program.

In 2018, Mrs. Pebworth taught computer science at Coalgate. But her love for music really sparked, and she soon became the band and choir teacher for Coalgate, guiding those who love music to success! Mrs. Pebworth spent a good 10 years there before she transferred to Atoka and became the choir teacher for McCall Middle School as well as Atoka High School.

“My hobbies are playing music for Jesus, as well as fishing with my kids. I love to sit on the porch and watch my kids play.” Mrs Pebworth also loves to play music outside of school at venues such as “Ol Red.”

Cross Country Spotlight

By Audrey McClour

Our AHS cross country team may have been small this year, but they worked hard. Coach Braudrick coached a team of two, having had two students move away early in the season. When I interviewed him, he stated that "Overall, we had a good season, every athlete improved their time in every meet that they competed in. He also shared that both runners were young - 9th grade and below - but Braudrick believes that, "If we carry that same work ethic into future seasons then they will be a force to compete against."
