See/Saw You At the Pole is a tradition in which all schools in our county participate. A mix of Christian students and staff gather around the flag poles at their campus for a time of prayer and worship. We started ours here at AHS early in the morning around 7:30 a.m. We prayed over our peers, teachers, government, and nation. Our school served donuts, apple juice, and hearty chocolate milk. This year, for See You At the Pole, the turnout of students was remarkable. Around 40 students were there to support our school and county in prayer.

Chance Krueger, a current Cats for Christ member, stated, “I think the turnout of students was great! We had a lot of the underclassmen, so it really helps in setting up the event for next year.” It is great to see this in the underclassmen because the student body will be relying on them to keep the Good News alive in the school for years to come. Chance was also asked if he thought the students were respectful and took the prayer seriously.  “For a majority, yes. However there were some students that haven't really had that connection with God yet and don't really know how to pray, but it's an amazing opportunity to further teach them about God's word,” Krueger replied.

According to Randy Hurt, a member of the band that led worship at Saw You at the Pole, "When our students come together from multiple churches across our association, it opens their eyes to a different way of worship." I also asked him how he felt the students responded to the message, and he said, "The guest speaker was from OKC. I noticed his clothes, shoes, and even his accent were different from what we are used to in SE Oklahoma. This always engages students' attention. So yes, I believe the students were definitely connected in worship and in the preaching." In other words, See/Saw You at the Pole was a great success this year and will, hopefully, continue to be as the years go by.
