On September 15, 2023, Atoka High School had its homecoming. A parade was held downtown followed by a ceremony before the Wampus Cats' football game. The homecoming theme was Rockin' Through the Decades. There were many amazing floats and cars that highlighted the theme. The sophomores placed first in the float contest, seniors placed second, and juniors placed third. Mrs. Gibson, AHS Student Council Advisor, had this to say about the events, “I think the parade went well! I heard great feedback from several parade-goers.” They enjoyed seeing the students dressed up as well as the floats! We asked her if she thought the ceremony ran smoothly, and she responded,“I do think the ceremony ran smoothly. Practice went great and we only had to practice once (which the students were happy about)! Students understood what to do and made it easy!”
“What I liked most about homecoming was the effort and help of everyone from students, to staff, to administration. Everyone stepped up and did a great job. The dress-up days brought out some fun outfits, the floats were awesome, and we had quite a bit of student participation. I also had help from several staff members. Their help and compliments about how well things were going helped me get through that stressful week!” states Gibson.
Audrey McClour and Chance Krueger were crowned Queen and King during the homecoming ceremony. Audrey told us that she "felt super shocked and grateful! It was an awesome experience and {she's} very thankful.” She said that she had fun with her friends working on their class float. Chance was “very happy and excited about winning homecoming.” His favorite thing about homecoming was being able to see people who graduated last year.
