Lenten Reflection Week 1
Ash Wednesday marks the first day of our solemn commemoration of the Season of Lent. On these sacred days, we are invited to reflect on the mystery of God’s love, passion, and salvation through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.
In his Lenten message for this year, Pope Francis reminded everyone that these theological virtues (prayer, fasting, and almsgiving) are vital in our faith and conversion journey. He said that through them, “it makes it possible for us to live lives of sincere faith, a living hope, and effective charity.”
In the spirit of these virtues and tradition during Lent that many people offer sacrifices for 40 days. To name a few, some are willing to give up everyday comforts such as coffee, or chocolate for 40 days. Some abstain from eating meat every Friday. These acts of penance are worthwhile, especially when done out of love, in the spirit of prayer, and deepen our connection with God and others.
Pause for a while and ponder on the following questions.
How about you? Were you inspired to ‘give up’ or ‘sacrifice’ some things from previous Lents? How was your experience?
