ASH WEDNESDAY 2021
February 17, 2021, Ash Wednesday, marks the first day of the solemn commemoration of the Season of Lent. In the season of Lent, the church invites all the faithful to pause and reflect on the mysteries of God’s deep love, mercy, and salvation by remembering our Lord Jesus Christ’s life, death and culminates with the celebration of His Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
In preparation for the Season of Lent, we are pleased to share with you some information and guidelines on how to commemorate Ash Wednesday as we usher into the sacred season of Lent at the safety and comforts of your homes.
We would like to invite you to join the whole Ateneo Junior High School Community in our Online Eucharistic Celebration of Ash Wednesday on February 17, 2021, at 9:00 AM. Fr. Alberto V. Ampil SJ, Director of the PREP- PUSH Office is our presider. Our sponsor for this mass is the cluster of Pamplona.

Ash Wednesday Instructions
In accordance with the recent modifications on Ash Wednesday from the Vatican Congregation on Divine Worship and the liturgical recommendations that were issued by the CBCP for Ash Wednesday 2020, we will once again practice social distancing measures upon the distribution of ashes for Mass-goers on site.
For families taking part in the liturgy at home, the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission has prepared a simple rite that we hope will provide our families with a solemn and meaningful celebration of Ash Wednesday according to the requirements of the liturgical principles of the Church. Attached to this letter/e-mail is a copy of the Liturgical Rite where families can prepare their own ashes ahead of our Ash Wednesday liturgy.
Traditionally, the ashes blessed and distributed during Ash Wednesday are made by burning the leftover palms (palaspas) from Palm Sunday of the previous years. Given the situation of lockdown we are in, we understand that many homes may find it difficult to find old lenten palms and so ashes to be used for this year’s celebration can be sourced from dried leaves of plants or trees accessible to you.
During our Ash Wednesday Mass, the ashes you prepared yourself will be distributed by the head of the family. The blessing and distribution of Ashes will happen after the priest’s homily. Please wait for the audible and visible cue that will be flashed on-screen during the mass.
Let us all pray that we may all have a meaningful and prayerful commemoration of the season of Lent.
In Christ,
