Application Activity:
Ask a current educator or fellow future educator if you can interview them for a principled innovation empathy interview. Your interview should last approximately 30-45 minutes minutes. Offer a general overview of what a principled innovation empathy interview is as you explain your reason for wanting to conduct the interview.
Conduct the interview by applying each of the three Empathy Interview Moves shared in this presentation.
After you finish your interview, answer each of the following questions in a reflective, written format:
What did you learn about your interviewee (*Be sure to change any names/identifying information to maintain confidentiality)?
Did your interviewee open up to you as they shared? Why do you think they did, or did not?
What specific things went well during your interview? What would you do differently if you had the opportunity to do it again?
How do Principled Innovation Empathy Interviews assist you as you seek to build your empathy skills?
How can you use Principled Innovation Empathy exercises in your own work as an educator or future educator?
