In this 36-minute video presentation, we will explore how to move students from “doing” and “understanding” their learning to ownership of their learning. Educators play an essential role in helping their students to take ownership of learning through the actions they take related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and climate. By the end of this power-up and application activity, you will be able to identify and support student ownership in your classroom through the use of at least one strategy to promote student ownership of learning.
Essential Questions:
What is student ownership?
What does ownership look like and sound like in the classroom?
What is the teacher’s role in student ownership?
Apply one or more strategies to promote student ownership of learning in the classroom.
Review the learning outcome and consider how improving your ability to promote student ownership will advance learning in the classroom.

Application Activity:
To apply your learning, please complete the following steps:
A. Using an instructional plan that you will teach in your classroom, incorporate at least one strategy or insight (that you learned in this power-up) into your plan. Be sure that
your strategy or insight is highlighted or in a different color font to demonstrate where you added the strategy.
B. Teach the lesson and then briefly respond (in writing or video) to the following prompts:
How did you see your students moving toward ownership in the lesson?
In what ways did you see your students “doing”, “understanding”, or “owning”?
What changes or improvements would you make to increase student ownership further if you were to do this again?
C. Submit the instructional plan and responses to prompts in your submission for this power-up, as evidence of having achieved the learning objective.
