SOS stands for Supporting Our Students, and it’s a referral system that allows faculty, staff, students, and mentors the ability to alert our MLFC Student Success Team that a student needs additional support and/or resources. An SOS can be submitted for any dimension of student well-being, including: academic performance, mental health, financial, social-emotional, etc., as well as concerns about professional dispositions.
If you have concerns regarding your teacher candidate:
Violating the Student code of conduct
Not meeting professionalism standards
Needing additional Coaching/Mentoring for specific TOI
Excessive absences
Please reach out to your assigned ASU faculty member to discuss implementing an Individual Growth Plan (IGP).
Timecards will be utilized to track hours in the field. Interns and student teachers must maintain a current timecard and have their mentor teacher initial it at each visit for verification. Timecards must reflect and meet the required professional field experience minimum time (as per the course expectations) and contain original hand signatures from the mentor teacher. Timecards will be submitted to the ASU course instructor at least three times during the semester.
Sonia is the student placement management system used at ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton College. At the start of each semester, the system will automatically generate and send an email with login information (username and temporary password). All mentor teachers will submit formal feedback in the form of Midterm and Final Progress Reports. All forms to be completed will be found under the “forms” tab and will only display the current form needing to be completed.
The Professional Experience Handbooks serve as essential guides for both mentor teachers and teacher candidates throughout the placement. They outline key expectations, timelines, and responsibilities, helping ensure clarity and alignment across the university and school site. These handbooks are valuable reference tools that support strong communication, consistent mentoring, and a successful, well-supported experience for everyone involved.
