A micro-teach assignment is a brief, focused teaching opportunity where the teacher candidate leads a full lesson and uploads a 10- to 25-minute video segment in GoReact (see instructor expectations). This allows mentors and supervisors to observe, provide targeted feedback, and support the candidate’s development in a manageable, low-stakes setting. Micro-teaches are a valuable way to build confidence and refine teaching techniques early in the placement.
The performance assessment is a formal evaluation that captures the teacher candidate’s ability to plan, instruct, assess, and reflect on student learning. It serves as a culminating demonstration of the candidate’s readiness for the classroom. Mentor teachers play a key role by supporting the planning process, observing instruction, and providing feedback aligned to the Teaching Observation Instrument (TOI).
