Thank you for serving as a mentor teacher—your role is essential to preparing confident, capable future educators.
Professional experiences are a cornerstone of any teacher preparation program. These hands-on opportunities allow teacher candidates to connect theory to practice in real classrooms while receiving meaningful feedback and support in a scaffolded, developmental model.
As a mentor, you are the bridge between coursework and classroom practice. Your role includes:
Modeling effective instructional practices that reflect strong pedagogy and professionalism.
Providing regular feedback and coaching to help your candidate grow throughout the placement.
Gradually releasing responsibility, so your intern or student teacher moves from observing to co-teaching to leading instruction.
Completing required evaluations in partnership with ASU faculty, ensuring alignment and support.
We know your time is valuable, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. This site is your go-to resource for tools, timelines, and guidance.
Connect with your teacher candidate to confirm if they are an undergraduate or graduate student, and clarify their placement type (intern, student teacher, or apprentice teacher).
