Lesson 2: Basic Editing, Transitions, and Text/Titles
Step 1: Ensure the Video Bumper and Pre-Recorded Video are in the Media PoolIf you still need to add media, simply right click on the media pool and select import media. Step 2: Insert the Video Bumper on the Timeline To begin, select the video bumper from the media pool and drag that clip to the Timeline. This should be your first clip on the timeline. Step 3: Insert the text title with your course prefix and short descriptionThe video bumper will be followed by a 5- to 6-second simple text title featuring the course prefix and a description of the video, for example, "ABC 123: Unit 3 Introduction." To add a text title to your video, do the following:
Navigate to the Media Pool in the top toolbar, click effects.
Choose Titles from the Toolbar that pops up.
Choose the “text” option and drag and drop it behind the Video Bumper.
Add your course prefix and a description of the video, for example, "ABC 123: Unit 3 Introduction."
The default time length of the text is set to 5 seconds.
Step 4: Add your pre-recorded videoSelect your pre-recorded video clip that is in the Media Pool and drag it to the timeline, next to the text clip. Step 5: Trim or Edit Video Clips in the Timeline This is where you can trim your video down from either the start or ending.
Hover your mouse over either side and you will be able to slide your cursor to decide where you would like your video to start or end.
Feel free to edit all of your individual clips you’ve imported to the media pool to your liking, besides the video bumper you were provided.
Step 6:Add Crossfade/Fade to Black Transitions You will need to add a crossfade transition between each clip, this process will also ensure your video has a fake to black transition on the final clip.
Select the video bumper clip, you should see a small white marker at the beginning and end of the video bumper. The video bumper has been pre-edited, so you do not need to move the white marker at the beginning. To create the fade effect, you want to drag the white marker at the end of the clip to the left for a few seconds. That will then allow the bumper to crossfade into the next clip we are adding to the video.
Select the text clip, since this clip does not come pre-edited like the video bumper, you will need to drag the white marker at the beginning of the clip to the right for a few seconds, and also the white marker at the end of the clip to the left for a few seconds.
Select your pre-recorded video and repeat the previous step. Drag the white marker at the beginning of the clip to the right for a few seconds, and also the white marker at the end of the clip to the left for a few seconds. Your video will now fade to black at the end.
Your video should be complete. Congratulations on producing and editing a video successfully in Davinci Resolve! Now with our completed video, we are going to move to Lesson 3, where we will be exporting and embedding the video to Canvas.
