Lesson One: Overview and Media Importing
Introduction:
Hello there, University of Skaro Faculty members! In this tutorial, we're diving into DaVinci Resolve. Step 1: Locating DaVinci ResolveFirst off, ensure DaVinci Resolve is on your computer by giving your file explorer a quick search. If you are unable to locate Davnici Resolve on your computer, reach out to the IT department.
Search for DaVinci Resolve using your file explorer.
Contact IT Department if not found.

Step 2: Lesson OverviewIn this first lesson of DaVinci Resolve, we discuss an Overview and media importing.

Step 3: Creating a New ProjectOur first step is to create a new project. Start by opening DaVinci Resolve; look for its icon on your computer and select it. This action opens your Project Manager window, your go-to for opening, saving, and managing your projects. Spot the ‘New Project’ button on the bottom right and give that a click. Label your project and then select ‘Create’.

Step 4: Navigating the InterfaceThis opens up another window with a toolbar at the bottom, where you can right-click and add labels. The options available are Media, Cut, Edit, Fusion, Color, Fairlight, and Deliver. For this tutorial, we need to be on the Edit tab. Feel free to explore the different tabs and see what Resolve can do.

Step 5: Importing MediaFor step two, we’ll import media. Navigate to the top left part of the screen where it says ‘No Clips in Media Pool’. Right-click in the media pool, head down to ‘Import Media’, and navigate to your stored video. For multiple selections on a PC, hold down control, and on a Mac, it's command. A window may pop up about changing your frame rate; it's okay to select ‘Change’. Once done, all imported media should be in the media pool, ready for the next step.
Head to ‘No Clips in Media Pool’ on the top left.
Right-click in the media pool.
Choose ‘Import Media’.
Select your stored videos (Use Ctrl for multiple selections on PC, Command on Mac).
Import the University of Skaro bumper.
Address any frame rate change prompts.
Step 6: Working with the InterfaceOnce the media is in the media pool, you’ll notice two screens to the right: The Source Viewer (located closest to the Media Pool) and the Timeline Viewer (located to the right of the Source Viewer). The Source Viewer previews individual clips before they make it to your final video. Below these two screens is your timeline, your storytelling canvas. Drag your clip onto your timeline, and it should also appear in the Timeline Viewer.
