Flux Analysis

The whole metabolome can be studied as a big map, in which metabolites (cities) and metabolic pathways (roads) comprise the metabolic reaction network. Metabolite levels provide “snapshots” of biochemical abundances; however, cellular metabolism in a living system is not static. In contrast, metabolic flux analysis (MFA) is able to provide a dynamic description of the cellular metabolome in a living system. Therefore, pathway-specific information from MFA is often required to fully understand a biological process.
