Andie's Portfolio

Short Bio

Hello, my name is Mingchuan (Andie) Jia, a fourth-year undergraduate at Arizona State University's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College pursuing a bachelor's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education and a certificate in Disability Studies. Upon graduating from Benilde-St. Margaret's School in St. Louis Park, Minn., I went to the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash., amid the COVID-19 pandemic. During the extended online school, I discovered my passion for teaching from experiences as a student tutor serving multiple Seattle public secondary schools and witnessing students struggling during the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic provoked me to rethink education: how we can pivot through the pandemic with innovative and equitable instructional strategies, how to balance our academic excellence and mental health as a teacher, and what strategies could be utilized to prevent students from mental fatigue that leads to aversion to the subject? With inspiration and curiosity, I transferred to Arizona State University to accomplish my teacher dream in June 2022.

During my undergraduate studies at ASU, I will continue to acquire knowledge from active learning, field experiences, student teaching, and internships. After completing my degree in Fall 2024, I will pursue a master's degree in 2025 to further my knowledge in education to become a teacher who empowers students with knowledge, passion, and empathy.
