Bamyan is one of the most deprived cities in Afghanistan and many people live under the poverty line. The climate is very harsh with almost six months of winter. As a result, many families cannot afford coal and wood to warm their homes and cook food. So they use cow dung as a source of energy. (Center of Bamyan, November 2020)
