The information below outlines the students' requirements when writing their reflection which will appear on their semester report. This information can be copied and sent to students as scaffolding when you begin requesting their reflections.
To create a paragraph that discusses your personal and academic learning over the semester.
For you to identify and record your goals and consider your strengths and areas for improvement. This is an opportunity for you to discuss what worked well over the semester and what you can continue to improve upon, as well as consider some of the strategies you either put in place or could in place in the future to improve your learning experience at Assumption College Kilmore.
You are to write a 100-150 word reflection assessing your learning and goal progress over the semester. This will appear on your end of semester report.
This is to be written in paragraph form, using complete sentences and accurate spelling and grammar.
Your reflection should be based around the following:
Learning goals identified in your LM interviews term one
What steps have you taken to achieve these goals?
Have you achieved them?
If you haven’t, how could you work to achieve this in semester two?
What were some things you learnt in your endeavour to achieve the goal?
Learning over semester one
What was your academic highlight in semester one?
What was your personal highlight at ACK in semester one?
What was something you enjoyed learning about?
Where do you think you’ve improved across the semester?
Future goals
Identify at least two specific learning goals for semester 1
Sample 1:
I have been working towards reading regularly at home and my isometric drawing skills. I have been aiming to read 15 minutes each night before bed and regularly discuss what I am reading with my family, which has made it more interesting. My isometric drawing skills have improved considerably because I have been asking my teacher for feedback, as well as practicing this frequently. My highlight this semester was when I learnt about Ancient Rome and was able to choose my own area of focus for my assessment task. Personally, I was part of the Junior production of Mulan and met many students through this activity. In semester two I hope to work on my spelling and to improve on my proofreading and editing skills.
Sample 2:
During semester one I didn’t make any goals. Next semester I want to work on being more organised and ask my teachers for help when I need it. I think I could also improve my behaviour in some classes. I’m going to check the SIMON calendar each week to look at what tasks I have coming up. Instead of getting distracted in class, when I don’t understand the work I am going to ask my friends and then my teacher for help. In Wood I made a bedside table which I’m proud of and it was nice that my House chose me to be on the SRC. At the start of the year I didn’t like going to English because I didn’t find the work interesting, but I actually read the book for the second assessment which meant that I understood what was happening.
If you fail to submit a reflection by the due date to your Learning Mentor, the following comment will appear on your report, "NAME has been unable to write the reflection on their learning and goals at this time".
As your report is a reflection of your work across the semester and can be used as part of a resume when applying for jobs and added to your myPortfolio, it is always best to complete your reflection. It demonstrates your ability to complete tasks and critically reflect on your own achievements.
