The Victorian Curriculum F–10 includes capabilities, which are a set of discrete knowledge and skills that can and should be taught explicitly in and through the learning areas, but are not fully defined by any of the learning areas or disciplines. For clarity, the capabilities are formally assessed in core subjects.
The four capabilities in the Victorian Curriculum F–10 are:

In addition to the cross-curriculum capabilities, the Victorian Curriculum has also identified a series of priorities that are to be included across all curriculum areas. These cross-curriculum priorities are:
- Learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures
- Learning about Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia
- Learning about Sustainability
