Synchronous & Asynchronous

*In the hybrid classroom environment, instruction should be provided for students present in class as well as any students working online from home. Classroom direct instruction can be live streamed, recorded, or presented in a flipped classroom model. Instructional examples can be found here. Teachers should also check in regularly with students who are at home.

*During a distance learning scenario, instruction should allow for both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (self-paced) instructional activities. All teachers should meet with students synchronously (live) multiple times each week. Synchronous tutorials, office hours, and/or small-group instruction opportunities should also be offered.

*Material should be kept engaging, reasonable in length, and to the point. Recorded lectures or readings can utilize tools such as EdPuzzle to promote interactivity. In-class live streaming should utilize interactive tools such as quiz games or polling so all students stay engaged.

*Asynchronous instruction should utilize teacher-created materials (such as teacher-recorded videos or Hyperdocs) in addition to any outside instructional materials (such as pre-created videos found online).
