Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Brady Neel and I am so excited to be your child’s math teacher this year! We are going to have a great year together. Math is my favorite subject, and I hope to share my love for math with your child this year!
I am really looking forward to getting to know your child and your family. While I am so lucky to get to spend part of this year with your child, we all know the most important person in their life is YOU! You are their first teacher, their biggest cheerleader, and their most fierce advocate. Getting homework done each night, asking your child about their school day, checking over their papers and tests, and keeping an open line of communication with me are all ways you can help your child succeed. It is also very important that your child arrives at school on time each day as math starts right after announcements at 8:35.
Math 4 is a bit of a transition from Primary Math as your child will now be responsible for a math book and transferring homework problems from the book onto a separate paper to answer them. This takes a bit of practice and so consequently we go a little slow in the beginning to ensure that each child has the procedure down correctly. Each week, I will send home a math homework planner in your child’s folder. The planner lists the assignments for the week, including which problems to complete and where they are located in the book. These resources are also posted on my website, along with a blank homework page to print if needed.
Saxon Math 4 also moves at a quicker pace than Math 3. While we still begin with review, we move into new material more quickly. By the end of the year, your child will be multiplying double-digit numbers and completing long division—so exciting! One of the best ways you can support your child at home is by practicing multiplication facts with them. Fluency with multiplication tables is one of the strongest predictors of success in this class. Practice may not make perfect, but it does make permanent brain connections!
If you need to get in touch with me, email is the best way to communicate (neel_brady@asdk12.org). I check it several times a day and will always get back to you within 48 hours, except over the weekend in which case I will get back to you on the next day of school. I will also use the Remind App for communication as needed.
Let’s get ready for a fantastic Math 4 year!
Sincerely,
Brady Neel
