Ms. Brady’s Fifth Grade Class
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Hello, I am so excited to be your child’s fifth grade teacher! We are going to have a great year together. Fifth grade is full of so many wonderful and thought provoking books, experiments, and topics. I truly enjoy teaching all of the content we get to cover in fifth grade, and am so excited to see your child's knowledge grow throughout the year.
I am really looking forward to getting to know your child and your family and one of the best ways to do that is to have you in the classroom! We will have lots of opportunities for volunteers this year. If you are interested in volunteering, there are things you can do at home or at school that would be of great help. Just let me know if you are interested in helping and what you would prefer to do or if you have any special talents that you'd like to share. There will be a packet coming home at the beginning of the year where you will find several forms to fill out, including all of the volunteer forms. Please get that back to school as soon as possible and it will be routed to the office. One thing I do ask is that you give us the first two weeks, including the first day of school, before planning to come in to the classroom and volunteer. The beginning of the year is crucial for building community in our classroom, and it is important for everyone that I have that time to get to know the students and for them to get to know me. I will make sure to send a note to all parents once we are ready to have helpers come in. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding!
While I am so lucky to get to spend this year with your child, we all know the most important person in their life is YOU! You are their first teacher, their biggest cheerleader, and their most fierce advocate. Reading at home, asking your child about their school day, checking over their papers and folder, and keeping an open line of communication with me are all ways you can help your child succeed. It is also very important that your child arrives at school on time each day. I have included a schedule in this packet or you can see it online here. We will be starting each day with a quick something to build classroom community before heading to math at 8:35, making that on time arrival even more important!
Before the school year starts, please take some time to look at our class supply list (and label everything!). I would also really appreciate if you took some time to fill out the Parent Survey. It may take 15-30 minutes, and whenever you can get it done would be great, but it will be a huge help to me if it can be done before August 10. Last but not least, please take a look at the fifth grade behavior and grading expectations. We will review these in the fall, but they will give you a good idea of what to expect this upcoming year. Once school gets started, please look for a take-home folder to come home with your student each night. This is where you will find your child’s homework, graded papers, Aquarian news, and any important notes from me. We will work on the routine of taking folders back and forth from school during the first two weeks of class, so keep your eye out!
If you need to get in touch with me, email is the best way to communicate (neel_brady@asdk12.org). I check it several times a day and will always get back to you within 48 hours, except over the weekend in which case I will get back to you on the next day of school. If I do not get back to you within this time frame, please reach out again because I might have missed it. We will also be using the Remind App for communication this year. Expect to see more information coming on that soon!
Let’s get ready for a wonderful year!
Sincerely,
Brady Neel
