Dear Upper Elementary School Parents,
Thank you for your continued partnership as we navigate these challenging and uncertain circumstances together. Our priority remains providing the best possible online learning environment for our students while supporting families during this time. As we have shifted to remote learning, our students are now located in many different countries, including Qatar. To support students in different time zones, lessons continue to be recorded so students can access instruction at times that best fit their schedules and circumstances.
In addition, teachers are offering office hours so students can ask questions, receive clarification on lessons, and get additional academic or pastoral support as needed. These sessions are designed to help ensure students remain connected to their learning and feel supported during this period. We kindly ask that you keep your child’s teachers informed of your family’s circumstances, as this helps us better understand how your child will engage with their learning while working remotely.
Please note that attendance is still being monitored, and teachers will adjust attendance records as needed once it is clear that students have engaged with their lessons (synchronous or asynchronous) and completed learning materials.
Reminder: Expectations for online/virtual learning sessions
Students need to be in a quiet location with minimal distractions.
Students must keep their cameras on during live sessions.
Tools and materials need to be ready for learning.
Students need to be at a desk or table.
Fully charge or connect your device before class starts.
Completing Assignments:
As we will now be in remote learning for a longer period, it is essential that your child actively participates in their learning and completes all assignments. Teachers and administrators have begun reaching out to the parents of students who have not been completing their assignments for follow-up. If your child needs to catch up, that is fine. Please be sure to stay in regular communication with your child’s teachers so your child can benefit as much as possible from their remote learning experience.
Assessments and Report Cards
Assessments are an important part of the learning process. They give teachers insight into what students understand and where they may need additional support. This helps us plan instruction that meets each student’s needs.
As we conduct assessments in a virtual setting, we want to ensure that the results accurately reflect each student’s individual understanding. We ask that students complete all assessments independently, without assistance, and use only the strategies and tools they have learned in class. This is an opportunity for students to demonstrate our ASD core values of Honesty and Responsibility by showing their own thinking and doing their best work.
Report cards will be available for parents to view in PowerSchool on Thursday, April 9, at 3:00 p.m. At this time, teachers are finalizing grades and reviewing student engagement and progress from the past several weeks of learning.
Career Day and PTC Postponed
Due to recent schedule adjustments, Upper Elementary Career Day has been postponed. We will share an updated date and additional details with our parent volunteers as soon as they become available. Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm in helping our students learn about and explore a wide range of careers. Your partnership helps make these learning experiences meaningful for our community.
We are also anticipating scheduling Parent–Teacher Conferences toward the end of April. Once we have greater clarity around our calendar and upcoming events, we will confirm the dates and share additional details with families in due time.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of your child’s learning.
Sincerely,
Brian Donaldson and Selina Collins
