HEAD NURSE

My name is Josephine Bou Akar, the head nurse at ASD. I am a proud mother of two boys who are currently pursuing their university education in Lebanon.

My journey in nursing began in Lebanon, where I worked in a hospital for 14 years, developing the knowledge, skills, and compassion that continue to guide me in my work today. After moving to Doha with my family in 2004, I continued my career as a school nurse and have had the privilege of working in different schools across Doha for around 20 years. Qatar has become a special part of my life. It is a place where I have grown both personally and professionally and where I have had the opportunity to contribute to the community I call home.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Holy Spirit – Kaslik (USEK) in Lebanon

and a Master’s degree in Diabetes Care from the University of Warwick in London, which I

completed in 2023.

I hope to continue sharing my experience, knowledge, and passion with the ASD community and to be a valuable member who contributes to the safety, health, and well-being of students, families, and everyone around me. My greatest motivation is knowing that through my work, I can make a positive difference—one person, one family, and one community at a time.

MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL NURSES

My name is Jan Ibarreta and I’m from the Philippines. I joined ASD in December 2019 as a sub-nurse. Over the years, I have transitioned to a part-time nurse in February 2023 and most recently, I have taken on the role of a full time nurse. Before joining ASD I had my clinical background in Emergency Nursing, Orthopedics, OB-Gyne and Delivery for 10 years. I had a leadership role in the Emergency Department. All of these exposures have equipped me with a well-rounded skill necessary to navigate complex medical situations. It is a gratifying journey for me to transition into the role of a school nurse and as I continue to grow in ASD, I am eager to apply my extensive experience and passion for pediatric care. I am also grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a healthcare organization that values excellence and compassion in students well-being.

My name is Ifeoma Lilian Michael, and I am a Registered Nurse/Midwife licensed in Nigeria and Qatar (QCHP). I have lived in Qatar since 2015 and began working at ASD as a substitute nurse in November 2023, becoming a full-time staff member in October 2025. I previously served as a school nurse at Doha Academy for four years, and worked at Hamad Medical Corporation and PHCC for two years, gaining experience in triage, vaccination, infection prevention, and urgent care. I support student well-being through daily healthcare, chronic condition management, illness and injury response, and wellness promotion. I am committed to safeguarding, safety, and a caring learning environment for all students.

My name is Laureen Tordecillas, and I am from Quezon City, Philippines. I began working at ASD as a substitute nurse in October 2019 and went on to accept the position as a full-time nurse in ES in December 2019. I became an MS/HS nurse in 2021. Before coming here, I worked as a Community Nurse in the Philippines for 5 years, where I assisted in promoting wellness programs and preventing lifestyle diseases of the residents of the community. My clinical experience in a hospital setting that specializes in Medical-Surgical, OB-Gyne, Pediatrics, and Oncology refined my skills and attitude in attending to the needs of our patients. Working in a school setting is a fulfilling nursing experience, especially the interaction with students and their healthcare needs. In addition, our role as school nurses is significant in promoting students’ physical, emotional, and mental wellness to maximize their potential and capabilities.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (LES & UES) NURSES

My name is Prima Vinod, ES Team Lead Nurse. I am from Kerala, India. I began at ASD in 2019 as a nurse in elementary school. Before coming to ASD I worked as a multi-specialty nurse in Aster Clinics - Qatar for 8 years. There I worked in different specialties like Pediatric, OB-Gyne, General Medicine, Dental etc. I am enjoying my work as a school nurse because I love to work with children to ensure their health, safety and wellness. I work in collaboration with the parents, teachers, counselors, and principals to promote the students' physical and mental wellbeing in school.

Hi, my name is Fatima Alano. I am one of the ES nurses and I’m from the Philippines. I started to work as a substitute nurse in 2019 and became a full time nurse in 2021. Before coming to ASD I worked as staff nurse in one of our local hospitals for 6 years wherein I handled various medical cases and mostly pediatrics. Being a school nurse is how I get to help children. And the biggest highlight for me is knowing that I play a role in their safety and wellness.
