Our dedicated Aquatics Team is committed to ensuring that every student learns essential swimming skills and enjoys their time in the water.
We encourage you to watch the video with your child and engage in discussions about the different elements of our program. Your involvement is important in preparing them for the exciting aquatic experiences they will have this year.
This will be my second year at ASD as the Aquatics Coordinator. I’m from Colombia arriving in Qatar in 2017 and since then I have had the chance to work in different international schools in Qatar and Dubai.
I have been involved in aquatics sports since I was a child, starting as an athlete, being part of the national Colombian swimming team, swimming with fins and synchronized swimming. Reason that pushed me to make sport my profession, getting my Bachelor degree as PE teacher in La Havana, Cuba.
My passion is to spread the love for the water on all levels that will give the opportunity for everyone to be part of recreational and sports activities with water skills that will allow them to be safe and enjoy more. As a Latina, rhythm is a really important part of my daily life. I really enjoy dancing and listening to music.
I’m Joe and teaching has been my passion since 1992. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Master’s in Arts and over 7 international certifications as a Swim Coach. My experience and joy for teaching have helped me support my students and continue my passion in the world of water education. This is my 18th year at ASD in the Aquatics department as a Lead Aquatics Instructor and my 3rd decade teaching aquatics. I’m privileged to be delivering the outstanding ASD aquatics curriculum, all the way from Kindergarten through High School.
The primary goal of my teaching career has always been to develop interest among individuals while eliminating any fear of water so that they can enjoy a lifetime of aquatics with competence and confidence. I believe that this is something we do exceptionally well here at ASD. I am also passionate about Art, photography and electronics and have installed several large scale art installations within Qatar, internationally and in my home country of India.
Hi there, my name is Alex, I’m from Portugal and I’m currently a Lead Aquatic Instructor. In this role, I teach aquatic units across the whole school. Moreover, in coordination with the Aquatics Coordinator and the PE departments, I help design the aquatics program, its schedule, and assessment. Me, my fellow aquatic instructors and lifeguards, we seek to deliver a safe, consistent, and rich program to our learners.
Outside of work, I strive to stay in shape and healthy through a consistent training program. I love running, riding, and participating in several fitness activities. I do believe in a life surrounded by physical activity as a strategy to maintain or elevate my well-being.
I also love to travel to discover new places and cultures and recharge my batteries to arrive at school at the top of my game.

Aloha! I’m Clarleen from the Philippines. I have been here in ASD since 2017 as a Lifeguard then an Aquatic Instructor. In the said position I’m teaching kids how to swim, enjoy the water, do different activities in the pool like Snorkeling, Kayaking, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming and at the same time how to be safe in the pool.
I believe that children engaging in any sport will have lifelong benefits as well as great memories. Outside of work, I am a wife and a mother to my 5-year old son named Issa Marley. I love swimming, biking, traveling and most of the time going to the beach with my family and friends. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to connect cdelrio@asd.edu.qa.
Hello everyone. I’m Marouane Aouinati. I’m from Morocco and I've been an Aquatics instructor at the American school of Doha (ASD) since 2012. I’m a certified lifeguard, first aider and swimming coach.
I’m really enjoying teaching and helping the kids to improve their skills in the water. I am very passionate and responsible about what I’m doing. One of my favorite things is to see the kids happy and having fun when they are learning.
The water is a big part of my hobbies: I love surfing, fishing, diving…. anything related to the water.
Hi, I'm Abdelkebir Aouinati, but most people call me Jawad. I’ve been part of the Aquatics Department since 2005, and it's been an incredible journey! With nearly 20 years in the swimming industry, I've worn many hats—starting as a lifeguard and growing into roles as an instructor and coach.
I absolutely love teaching and nothing makes me happier than seeing kids leave each lesson with big smiles on their faces. I'm originally from Morocco, and when I'm not in the pool, you can find me enjoying some of my favorite activities like fishing, surfing, or playing football. I'm passionate about what I do, and I'm excited to share my love for the water with others!
Hi, I’m Meica Manzano. This is my first year as a full-time lifeguard, but I’ve been in the swimming industry since 2018. Before this, I was the HYDRA Administrator and a swim coach, experiences that deepened my love for the water and the people in it.
I’m currently studying Psychology, which aligns with my passion for understanding people and continuous learning.
I have a variety of interests, from diving into different kinds of books to exploring multimedia arts and photography. I believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and I’m always eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities to grow.
