Effect Club MS/HS Cafeteria Sustainability Initiative
In an effort to make our practices at ASD more sustainable, single-use take-away bowls are no longer available in the MS/HS cafeteria. Students, faculty, and guests may take food out of the cafeteria in the reusable bowls, but they must be returned to the collection trays in the cafeteria, high school grade-level commons, or faculty offices.

We are also implementing a new waste-sorting system. Sorting stations are located in each high school commons and the MS/HS cafeteria, with other trash cans removed to support proper sorting. Students are encouraged to help keep these areas clean and to be respectful of cafeteria staff as the school works toward a more sustainable future in our ASD community.

EcoSchools Mangrove Trip
As an EcoSchool, ASD was given the opportunity to connect with Aquasports and Dr. Aspa, the ecologist in charge of mangrove restoration efforts in Qatar. A group of UES and MS students went by kayak to explore the mangroves and learn about the rich biodiversity they host. We saw herons, crabs, fish, and learned how important mangroves are as habitat and food supply for Qatar's wildlife. We also greatly improved our kayaking skills!
