The Week of 9/17/18
This is the first week where students are introduced to STEM Lab. In this week's introductory lesson, students will work at this learning target: Challenge your growth mindset as you come up with different solutions to the same problem. They know that I expect many of the challenges I set up for them to involve some element of failure. (Yeah!) I am teaching them what to do with those feelings and what possible next steps can be. Additionally, they are learning how to be effective communicators on a very small team of 2-3. The challenge this week: Design the longest paper chain possible in 10 minutes that will hold together when measured. I'm seeing tiny rings and XL rings, which makes for an interesting discussion. One team measured over 11 feet, and the smallest measured at about 4 inches. After they attempt it a first time this week, next week they will go through more of the STEM process by reflecting, and redesigning. I can't wait to see the new results!
