The following "What Parents and Carers Need to Know" guides, created by the National College for Online Safety, have been produced to support families with informed decision making around responsible phone and internet use in an age of social media.
Block, Report and Leave
If your child is in a chat, or experiences an incident online, where inappropriate or worrying content is being shared, advise them to block the users sending the material, report them to the host app or platform and exit the group/app/game etc. If any of this content could be putting a minor at risk, contact the police on 101. Emphasise to your child that it’s OK for them to simply leave any group chat/app or game that they don’t feel comfortable being part of.
