At Meiklemill, our school is enriched by our House System. We have three houses; Craighall, Esslemont and Ythan. These names were chosen as the names of Craighall and Esslemont are the names of former neighbouring farmlands and of course the River Ythan flows straight past our school.
Each house has its own colour; red for Craighall, green for Esslemont and blue for Ythan. Our children are allocated a house in Primary 1. If they have older siblings, they will be placed in the same house. We have roughly 70 children in each house.
Our children are proud of their houses! They wear their house t-shirts during technology challenges and during sporting events.
Each house has a team of four P7 house captains who lead their houses. Our captains’ duties are varied but include organising and assisting with technology challenges, lunch duties and sports days. The also play an important part in inspiring their housemates to do well in earning Endeavour Points, Lunchtime Points, and competing for our Sports Day trophy, Potted Sports Trophy and Team Trophy. Our Awards Assembly recognises effort and is an exciting round-off to our school year, with our captains accepting awards on behalf of their houses, as well as medals being awarded to boys and girls in each house for their endeavours to do well across the session.
Endeavour Points
Our children can be recognised for effort in their classes and outside and earn points for themselves and for their house. Once they reach the milestone of earning 250 endeavour points, one of their captains will reward them with an endeavour badge.
All points are regularly counted by our P7 Endeavour Points Coordinators and the running totals are shared at assembly.
