Peer Mentoring

What is Peer Mentoring?

Mentoring involves a person (the mentor) supporting someone who has less experience in any given area or who requires guidance and support (the mentee). Mentors are good role models and excellent listeners offering support, counsel, friendship, constructive feedback, and reinforcement. Mentoring at Mearns Academy is delivered on a one to one basis and you can arrange to talk with our mentors in one of two ways:

Online - a meeting between mentor and mentee using a video or text based service. These meetings are available after school and offer more privacy.

Face to Face - a meeting between mentor and mentee which takes place in school.

Who are your Peer Mentors?

Our S5 and S6 mentors have been chosen and trained by the Peer Mentor Co-ordinator, Mrs Lorna Baker who has an MEd in Pastoral Care, Guidance and Pupil Support.

All mentors have been chosen for their sensibility, confidence, social skills and reliability and they are looking forward to supporting their younger peers.

This self -referral service is optional and will be available to any pupil who feels that they may benefit from sharing experiences with an older pupil.
