Foundation Apprenticeships: S5-S6

Foundation Apprenticeships (FAs) have been designed as a blend of College, School and Work Based Learning they give young people some hands-on practical experience of the world of work. You can learn more about them in detail here

Each Foundation Apprenticeship has been designed in partnership with industry to make sure that young people get the skills and knowledge they need. In the classroom they cover the theory behind each role – then they’ll get the opportunity to put it into practice in the workplace! The hands-on experiences will lead to an industry and Higher Education recognised qualification, set at SCQF Level 6 (the same level of learning as a Higher).

What can I study?

There are currently 12 frameworks available at level 6 and 3 frameworks at level 4/5. View full details on the SDS site here

Who can enrol?

Foundation Apprenticeships can be undertaken in one year (except Engineering FAs - 2 years).

1 year Foundation Apprenticeships are particularly suitable for S5 & 6 pupils who wish to enhance their learning and gain work experience.

2 year Foundation Apprenticeships - due to the nature of the awards, all of the Engineering apprenticeships take 2 years and as such are only for S5 pupils who will be staying on until the end of S6.
