Welcome

A dedicated S2 PBL third sector skills course at Mackie Academy

Our new S2 Adventurer course is designed to support exposure, experience and practice of dedicated skills delivered through the lens of YPI and social issues.  A meaningful programme that gives Mackie Academy pupils an insight into social issues in their community and develops skills to become active citizens using project based learning protocols.

Our skills framework for the S2 Adventurer is aligned to the School Leaver Profile.

We have been using the YPI journey to understand more about the third sector, research charities that exist to support issues in the community, with the pupils selecting a charity to support over term 3 where they will deliver a presentation on why the chosen charities are worthy of being crowned a YPI winner at Mackie Academy.

A massive thank you to the charities who attended our Charity Fair and supported our pupils who were finding out more about the important work going on in the local and wider community.

A high - energy and fun filled event where the pupils and charities really got to understand what work they do and how they support the issues.

Our charity partners fed back how impressed they were with the engagement and interactions from our S2's.

Thank you to:

Befriend a Child / The Haven / Quarriers / Grampian Women's Aid / RNLI / ARCHIE / Cyrenians / Home Start Kincardine / Pillar Kincardine & Mearns / Alcohol, drugs & Action / Men's Shed Stonehaven / kincardine & Deeside Befriending / Inspire

As our pupils work on design and visibility to support their chosen charities it was the perfect time for them to meet local Graphic designer and ex-Mackie pupil, Denise Godsman of Godsman Graphics who gave the whole year group some expert advice on how to create, design and present their charity work when it comes to presentation time.
