In this IDL pupils have been exploring local foods and the impact that food production has on climate change. Through their projects, pupils have cooked using local produce that is linked to the arable crop harvest (for example: scotch broth using barley, tattie scones, scones, shortbread and flapjacks with oats). Pupils have also learned about the four main arable crops and how they are grown and harvested.
Through their projects in this IDL, pupils have worked with Aberdeen University about food and climate change and linked with another class in a German school, where they have shared information about school dinners. Local farmers have shared videos of their crop harvest.
Pupils have developed several skills in the events that they have organised throughout their projects, such as the 'One Planet Picnic', where they planned, prepared, shared (and consumed!) a buffet consisting of local foods.
