During their projects in this IDL, pupils explored both historical and modern-day colonisation; looking at the pros and cons as well as the long-term effects (positive and negative) that colonisation brings. They then made informed decisions and took steps to create proposals, outlining their long term plans for the colonisation of outer space/planets, alongside a video pitch to advertise their plan and explain the 'whats' and 'whys' of their plans. Finally they designed a leaflet to be distributed to the public to enthuse and inform them of their goals.
After getting into small groups, they got to develop their leadership and creativity skills, as well as challenging themselves to broaden their researching skills. Pupils also developed their communication skills. Their experience in this IDL was enhanced by virtual visits from Dr Javier Martin-Torres and his colleague, professors in Geo and Planetary Sciences from the University of Aberdeen, and in person visits from representatives of our school senior of Space Club.
