Through their projects in this IDL, pupils had the opportunity to plan and lead an inclusive sports session for their peers. Prior to this, pupils experienced a variety of inclusive and adapted physical activities to help develop empathy towards those who may face barriers to participation. On reflection of these experiences combined with research activities, pupils gained essential tools (such as the STEP model from Scottish Disability Sport) to reduce barriers to participation.
To help pupils develop their confidence in leading, they participated in small, sided leadership opportunities where they received peer and teacher feedback. As a result, all young people played a role when leading the inclusive session for their peers.
