In January of S3, the faculty will reshuffle the sets to begin preparing for SQA National Qualifications in S4.
As before, set moves will be based on several factors, including attainment (recent & historical) as well as professional teacher judgement.
Recommended courses & levels should give pupils a realistic opportunity to be successful whilst providing an appropriate degree of challenge.
Individual recommended levels of study will be communicated to parents through the S3 full reports.
There are four main pathways from S3 into S4:
Pupils who are working towards either CfE Level 1 or 2 should be aiming to achieve either a National 3 or National 4 Applications of Mathematics pass.
Pupils will initially be presented for Nat. 3, but will also get the opportunity to sit the Nat. 4 Applications of Maths unit assessments.
In addition, Nat. 4 Applications of Maths pupils will also get the opportunity to achieve the National 5 Numeracy unit.
Pupils who are working towards CfE Level 3 should be aiming to achieve a National 4 Mathematics pass.
Pupils will get the additional opportunity to attempt Nat. 5 Applications of Maths, with a decision on final presentations to be made later in S4.
Pupils will also get the opportunity to achieve the National 5 Numeracy unit.
Pupils who are working towards CfE Level 4 who show strengths in applied skills (e.g., measurement, statistics, finance) should be aiming to achieve a National 5 Applications of Maths pass.
Pupils will also be presented for National 4 Mathematics in S4 and aim to achieve the National 5 Numeracy unit.
Pupils who are working towards CfE Level 4 who show strengths in theoretical skills (e.g. trigonometry, algebra) should be aiming to achieve a National 5 Mathematics pass.
Pupils will also bank the Nat. 4 Mathematics unit assessments and aim to achieve the National 5 Numeracy unit.
