In January of S3, the faculty will reshuffle the sets to begin preparing for SQA National Qualifications in S4.
As before, set moves will be based on several factors, including attainment
(recent & historical) as well as professional teacher judgement.
Recommended courses & levels should give pupils a realistic opportunity to be successful whilst providing an appropriate degree of challenge.
Individual recommended levels of study will be communicated to parents through the S3 full reports.
There are 3 main pathways from S3 into S4:
Pupils who are working towards CfE Level 2 should be aiming to achieve either a National 3 or National 4 Applications of Mathematics pass.
Many of these pupils will bank the National 3 Applications of Mathematics qualification first before working towards the National 4 Applications of Mathematics qualification.
In addition, some of these pupils may also achieve the National 5 Numeracy unit.
Pupils who are working towards CfE Level 3 should be aiming to achieve a National 5 Applications of Maths pass.
These pupils will also be additionally presented for National 4 Mathematics in S4 and aim to achieve the National 5 Numeracy unit.
Pupils who are working towards CfE Level 4 should be aiming to achieve a National 5 Mathematics pass.
Many pupils will also bank the National 4 Mathematics unit assessments over this time as well as the National 5 Numeracy unit.
