Arts For Empowerment Presents "The Journalist" Arts integrated curriculum based in multiculturalism and social emotional empowerment seamlessly wrapped around high school in-class curriculum units. The Journalist is about a young individual who sets out to make a difference in our world.
The young journalist spends time reflecting on the important individuals they have studied, written about and come to respect. Sam comes to understand that the strength of an individual is not measured by the impact that all their hardships in life have had on them but how they can be the difference for others and themselves. The strength of a human being is measured by the extent of their refusal to allow hardships to define them and who they may ultimately become.
Anna Performance
"ANNA" is the story of a girl born in 1911 forced to quit school at 15 after her mother dies spending years caring for her younger siblings. Over six years, Anna dreams of what is beyond the walls that have surrounded her. It was 1932 when Anna decides it is time to search for the unknown. Anna had the courage to follow her heart and intuition Even the smallest changes in our daily routine can create incredible ripple effects that expand our vision of what is possible.
The performance material is designed as realistic scenarios that are salient to all student cultural groups. Consider a classroom and lessons where students discuss the time in history in which Anna's story takes place and compares our current events that may reflect the same hardship, decline and triumphs within our society. It becomes clear to her that life is a succession of lessons that must be lived to be understood. It is a lesson learned by Anna, a woman who was never afraid of taking chances.
