DATA FINDINGS INDICATE;

•78% think it's important to study painting, singing, dancing, and theater in school.

•87% learn a lot when they study about different cultures in school.

•83% have good friends who are culturally and racial different.

•88% realize how similar we are when they learn about different cultures.

•Students’ self-efficacy, critical thinking, cultural awareness, and acceptance of others increases as they create individual assignments and work together to perform a play.

•Majority would speak up against exclusion, prejudice, bias or injustice when done to friends, family or others they do not know

•Post survey shows increase in students’ self-efficacy, cultural awareness, and critical thinking.

A4E TEACHER OUTCOMES

• Teachers vary on how comfortable they are discussing multiculturalism with their students

• Teachers of color stated they were “very comfortable”

• White teachers felt challenged and “constantly work to better understand their diverse students”

• Teachers felt “at a loss for not knowing everything about all of the students’ cultures”

Attitudes toward multicultural arts integration curricula

• All teachers believe in power of creative and historical connections to culturally relevant information

• All teachers welcome student questions of culture and diversity

• All teachers feel students understand that they try to showcase students’ different cultures, thereby  gaining their student’s trust
