Resident Advisors (RAs) are an essential part of the Residence Life team. After receiving extensive training, RAs proactively work to create and maintain a strong community that positively influences students’ SAIC experience. Through one-on-one conversations, programming and general community development, RAs offer opportunities for students to engage with each other, develop interpersonal relationships and enjoy the college experience. RAs serve as a reliable resource for students and support students to achieve their educational and personal goals. They assist students by providing opportunities to learn, general support, information about on-campus resources, roommate mediations, and conflict resolution. RAs further support students in crisis and maintain community and facilities standards. RAs serve as role models and leaders to on-campus residents as well as to the larger SAIC community.
RAs create a living environment that is conducive to the academic, personal, and artistic growth of residents. They should know, assist and advise their residents: positively impact the SAIC community: and plan events for residents to attend.
RAs serve as first responders to many students and faculty concerns that arise in the residence halls. They serve in an on-call rotation and work with professional staff members and campus security officers to address and resolve situations.
RAs support fellow staff members in the Residence Life team. They assure the overall success of the Residence Life staff team as well as community development in the residence halls.
RAs complete a variety of administrative duties during their time as a staff member.
