We examined the relationship of various layers surrounding the game in the last art game lecture <Game Layer for Play>. In <Critical Player>, we wanted to share our game story and look at how to write about the target to become a “critical player” with eyes to look at the game critically.
In the first lecture, we discussed various ways to enjoy the game and talked about it together, and in the second lecture, we looked at game criticism as a media criticism that was being published. Based on this, in the third lecture, we explored our own way of talking about the game on the selected games. The 4th and 5th lectures were held as open lectures where participants could listen to the experiences of a game reporter, Myung-gyu Lee, and a developer of the game “Replica,” SOMI. In the last session, we shared our own experiences.
Let’s contemplate and talk about your own gameplay experiences and perspectives on the games and find new ways to enjoy the game.

Playing from Different Perspectives
Even if you play the same game, the impression can be different for each individual player, and depending on the approach, the possibilities of colorful stories are endless. We looked at how the writing and speaking methods that deal with the game are being made in various spaces after the games began to become common. Also, we discussed how we could share our own impressions with others by recalling our own approaches to the game.
Exploring from a Critical Perspective
Previously, we looked at various ways to approach games, but this time we looked at how articles dealing with actual games were being published. Looking at a wide range of practical examples of media criticism and analyzing where these articles were based, the participants developed a basis for how their experiences could be effectively communicated to others.
In this session, we thought about the potential perspectives, thoughts, and approaches for some example games. The session was be centered on hands-on practice in which each participant discussed the game he or she had chosen, conducted the process of internally structuring the discussion, and translated it into a text structure.
<OPEN Lecture 1> Writing of a game reporter _ Myeongkyu Lee
What is the writing of a game webzine journalist whose job is to write on the subject of games? We looked at the articles written by game journalists who have been writing game articles for a long time in specialized magazines and shared the experiences of professionals dealing with games by discussing the issues that game journalists often confront.
<OPEN Lecture 2> A Programmer’s Game _ SOMI
We listened to the game development philosophy of SOMI, who is one of the most popular indie game developers in Korea and wanted to convey his social messages by using games as a medium. We looked at the background and influence of his major works, social discussions, and outlines and intentions of the next work.
During the last session, each participant presented his or her own gameplay and perspectives, shared mutual feedback, organized the ideas before processing those into various contents, such as texts and videos, and shared their future steps.
