Our curriculum and purposeful assessment embraces critical thinking and creativity. While aligned with the Massachusetts Common Core State Standards, the curriculum is responsive to the range of academic, linguistic, and developmental learning needs of students. Our curricular resources strive to represent and be relevant to the diversity of our students.
1. Curriculum Embraces Critical and Creative Thinking
We will use curriculum design that incorporates a driving/essential question, and critical and creative thinking.
The learning in the project will demonstrate key understandings, competencies, and skills.
2. Assessment is Purposeful
We will have on-going and performance based assessment to inform instruction.
Students will be given opportunities to assess their own learning and develop pride in their work.
Assessment will be flexible and allow students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of modes.
3. Curriculum is Responsive to Academic, Linguistic, and Developmental Learning Needs
A variety of materials will allow all children to access learning.
In Wildwood classrooms, there will be flexible grouping depending on learning and instructional needs.
The curriculum will consider the learning needs of primary and elementary students by including explicit instruction of skills and strategies.
4. Curriculum and Curricular Resources are Relevant and Representative of the Diversity of Students
Books and resources will reflect our diverse student population.
Lesson design will consider equity, engagement, character, and family partnerships.
We will strive to have materials that invite children to interact and engage in inquiry and deep learning.
5. Curriculum is aligned to the MA CCSS
We will design or choose units that consider the cross grade alignment to Standards.
We will consider student interest in designing and tailoring lessons and units.
Whenever possible, we will embed project based learning elements into lesson design.
We will deepen our shared understanding of project based learning at Wildwood.
