5th Grade

Hey artists!

This week, we're putting all of our drawing skills together to make Zentangles! Click through the slideshow below to see some examples.

You'll start by drawing big lines across your paper to make sections or boxes. Pick a type of line or pattern and use it to fill one of the sections. Then, pick another to fill a different section! Keep going until all your sections are filled. You can even fill in the white spaces in between your lines, and have an exquisitely detailed design when you're done.

You can do this with our regular drawing paper just as it is, or you can cut or fold pieces of paper to create a Zentangle card, bookmark, or something else! I like to use markers, but you can use any kind of drawing supplies that you want.

Remember: It's OK for these lines to be straight-ish, wavy-ish, zigzag-ish...they don't need to be perfect! Keep your "ish" drawings in mind and practice these lines and patterns in a relaxed way. Your hands will still get stronger and learn how to make every type of line you practice, even if your lines aren't super precise.

We'll share our finished Zentangles in class - bring them to share! In the meantime, have fun working on these. See you next week!
