2nd Grade

Hey Artists!

This week, we're going on an artsy scavenger hunt! Last time I saw you, we practiced lots of different types of lines. For this week's class, you're going to look for lots of different lines around your house (and even outside, if you can take a walk or even just look out a window!)

Grab a piece of paper, a pencil or color pencil, and a hard-cover book for you to lean your paper on. Look for objects with interesting lines - this could be the shape of the object, the texture, or a pattern on it. When you find an interesting line, take a seat near it and look at the line very carefully. Where does it go? What shape does it make? Can you trace it with your finger?

Then, draw that line on your paper. IMPORTANT: Make sure you're really LOOKING closely at the object, so that you're actually drawing what you see instead of what your brain makes up. When you've collected the line, write down where that line came from and go find another.

You'll wind up with a collection of lots of lines on your page. Below, there is a slideshow of photos that you can use if you can't find interesting objects where you are or if you can't get outside right now.

Save your paper and bring it to our next art class! We'll share our lines and start another project with them then.

Have fun, and I'll see you next week!
