On Jan 1, 2017, the Alberta Government implemented the Alberta Carbon Levy as a way to drive municipalities and School divisions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. The carbon levy further reduced already diminished financial resources that municipalities and school divisions had, to tackle capital expenditures, deferred maintenance projects and to execute long-term projects. Furthermore, there is an increasing demand by stakeholders for municipalities and school boards to progress towards a sustainable and a more energy efficient future, without increasing tax revenues. This session will explore a creative way to implement innovative renewable technologies (such as battery storage),capital and deferred maintenance projects, that provide energy savings outcomes, reduced dependence on cash outlay and measurable outcomes to stakeholders.
