FAQs
CCE stands for Community Clinical Experience. This is a beloved course that all MS1 and MS2 students enroll in. Student are matched with a community physician in primary care and work with them for one calendar year. Click HERE to learn more about the course.
Students work with you in your clinic and practice history and exam skills learned in their Doctoring Course. While students may observe initially, the course is intended to be a hands-on experience. Once your student has earned your trust, we ask that preceptors allow students to gather histories and perform focused exams with as much supervision as you feel necessary.
Students begin CCE sessions with preceptors in October of their MS1 year and continue until October of their MS2 year. They attend CCE sessions twice monthly (every other week) for one half day. There are weeks designated for CCE, and we advise following this schedule as best as possible so as not to interfere with mandatory sessions. CCE allotted time is either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons. Students and preceptors decide which half-day works best. There are no sessions over winter break and the six-week summer break. You can view the schedule for the current academic year by clicking HERE.
*There is some flexibility if these days do not work with your schedule. Please talk to us ahead of time.
Preceptors function as models and mentors for students. We understand that primary care physicians have time constraints. Pointing out pertinent findings, sharing "pearls" and allowing students to observe your interactions are a few impactful and efficient learning opportunities. Try and allow your student to participate in the care of acute problem-focused visits or straightforward follow-up visits.
There are many perks to participating as a CCE preceptor, please see the Preceptor Benefits page for more detail!
