This document is a poster created in 1918 by Edouard Benito-Garcia and was printed by the Grasset bookshop in Paris. It talks about the two victors of the battle of the Marne: in 1914 the French soldiers against German soldiers and in 1918 the American soldiers against German soldiers too. The two battles of the Marne happened during World War I.
In the poster, we can see two soldiers : on the left a French soldier (we can recognize him because of his pants) and on the right an American soldier. They both wear a uniform and hold a rifle. In the middle of the poster, there is a text to honor the victors of the Marne.
Here is its transcript:
THE VICTORS OF THE MARNE
Honor and Glory to those who saved the Liberty of the World. Heroic soldiers in red pants who in 1914 triumphed on the sacred banks of the Marne, you will be immortalized in the legend of the bravest of the brave. And you, young soldiers of a great America, will enter history with imperishable honor, having renewed these glorious exploits by the side of the French in 1918.
There is also a drawing of a war scene with a village which is burning and some soldiers and tanks. Under the text, there are four flags, the flags of the victors, two hats/helmets which are American and French hats/helmets and two cannons, which symbolize their victories.
We choose this document to show that both American and French soldiers contributed to the victory of the battles of the Marne. Indeed, the two battles of the Marne were won by the allies. We felt that it was interesting to remind people that there are two different battles of the Marne, contrary to what most French people think, and also that they were won by the same team.
