The French, German and Spanish language courses are divided up into themes:
Theme 1 (Units 1,2,3 & 4 in the Kerboodle online textbook)
Theme 2 (Units 5, 6,7 & 8 in the Kerboodle online textbook)
Theme 3 (Units 9,10,11 and 12 in the Kerboodle online textbook)
You need to know the vocabulary from each Theme.
Start by highlighting words in green that you know, in orange for those you are a bit unsure of and in red for those words that you do not know at all.
Make Mind Maps, Flashcards or lists of words you highlight in red and learn a chunk of 10 every week.
Your exam will be:
Paper 1: Listening – use Kerboodle to do practice exercises
Paper 2: Reading - use Kerboodle to do practice exercises
Paper 3: Writing - use Kerboodle to do practice exercises
Paper 4: Speaking - the mock exam is in January. This is likely to be a TAG.
Write down the types of questions you find most difficult and focus on these e.g. true/false/not mentioned; positive/negative/positive and negative; answers in the target language; translating into English or from English into the target language.
Use SENECA and the Kerboodle online links to practise specific question types.
•Make sure that you prepare and learn written answers to each GCSE topic.
•Learn grammar carefully, especially the different tenses and verb endings. This will help you with the translations and writing tasks. Practise writing and speaking at home independently with minimal help. You will have to do this in the exam, so it is best to start sooner rather than later!
•Use any vocab books given carefully. Learn key vocab and try to use new words in speaking and writing.
•Use Language Perfect regularly to help you with grammar and vocab learning.
•To achieve a grade 5 or higher you will need to understand and use more than 3 time frames in speaking and writing.
Regular speaking workshops should be taking place for students later this term. Please see Mr. Edgington for further details. 8.00am breakfast revision sessions take place prior to each exam.
•We will mark your work on a regular basis and prepare you for key assessments and other exams. However if the work is not of your best effort, we will you ask to re-do or amend this to a higher standard.
•We can offer help and advice on how to prepare for assessments both in and outside of the classroom, but it is important that you let us know if you are uncertain or confused.
•We will provide you with strategies so that you know how to prepare and revise for all language exams.
There is an additional choice of tasks for the 90 Word and 150 Word Writing Tasks.
