The exam covers these specific sections. You must be able to define, describe, and apply them to scenarios:
TA1: Design Tools: Know how to create and explain Mind Maps, Flowcharts, Visualisation Diagrams, and Wireframes.
TA2: Human Computer Interface (HCI): Understand how we interact with systems (Touch, Voice, Gesture) and hardware considerations like screen size or processing power.
TA3: Data & Testing: The difference between Data (raw facts) and Information (processed data). Focus on Validation (computer check) vs. Verification (human check).
TA4: Cyber-security & Legislation: Understand threats like Phishing, Ransomware, and DDoS, plus the laws (GDPR, Computer Misuse Act).
TA5: Digital Communications: Types of networks (LAN, WAN, PAN) and how we share data (Email, Cloud, Social Media).
TA6: Internet of Everything (IoE): How everyday objects (Smart Fridges, Wearables) connect to the internet to make life easier.
One question will always ask you to create a design tool based on a scenario.
The Skill: You might be asked to draw a Wireframe for a mobile app or a Flowchart for a login process.
Pro Tip: Use a pencil! If you realize your flowchart logic is wrong halfway through, you need to be able to rub it out. Label everything clearly to show the "User Journey."
This is the "Extended Response" at the end of the paper. It usually asks you to look at the impact of a technology (like the IoE or Cloud Storage) on a business or individuals.
Structure: Don't just write a wall of text. Use a "Balanced Argument":
Paragraph 1: Benefits (e.g., "It improves efficiency because...")
Paragraph 2: Drawbacks (e.g., "However, it increases security risks such as...")
Paragraph 3: Conclusion (e.g., "Overall, for this specific company, the benefits outweigh the risks because...")
OCR is very specific about how you answer.
E.g.
Identify / State
1 mark
Just give the name (e.g., "Firewall").
Describe
2+ marks
Give the "What" and the "How/Why" (e.g., "A firewall monitors traffic to block unauthorized access.")
Explain
3+ marks.
You need a "Point, Evidence, Explain" chain. Link it back to the Scenario provided in the question.
