I selected English Literature as it is a way to be inspired and creative. In poetry, you focus on a range of poems. This helps to keep me motivated and interested as there is always a new poem to give my opinion and interpretation on! In the study of literature, there are many useful resources to give you a clear understanding of different texts. You are taught by more than one teacher, providing several viewpoints. I find that having more than one teacher keeps me motivated and open to different approaches.
Personally, I am enjoying studying ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’ It is a play that focuses on themes that interest me such as fantasy, illusion, cruelty, desire and loneliness. You are taught a range of reading strategies, including chapter analysis, summaries and critical viewpoints, which has helped me make the leap from GCSE!
English Literature will be very useful in the future not only does it help to upskill your command of the spoken language, but it also helps to strengthen your writing skills, stimulate your intellectual curiosity, enhance your memory and encourage you to be critical, all of which are important skills for any career.
